Our Food Stories: Discovering Local Preservation Methods
Students interview family members or community elders about traditional food preservation practices used in their area, learning the history, ingredients, and cultural significance behind one method. They collect photos, notes, and short descriptions to share with partner classes.
Document and Create a Visual Guide
Working in small groups, students organize their research into a simple step-by-step visual guide (drawings, photos, labels) showing how their local food preservation method works. They prepare a short description and gather materials to share with partner classes.
Live Exchange and Comparison with Partner Classes
Students participate in a video call with the partner class to present their visual guides, ask questions, and learn about preservation methods from other South Asian communities. After the call, they create a simple comparison chart showing similarities and differences between their method and at least two others.
Photo and Video Documentation
Students take or collect photos and record short videos (30 seconds to 1 minute) showing the actual food preservation process in action, or key steps and ingredients. These materials support their visual guides and are shared asynchronously with partner classes before the live exchange.
