Changemaker's Mission: My Roots to the World

This August we celebrate the International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples with a mission. The question is for everyone: What Indigenous tradition from your country would you share with the world? Talk about it in class, research it with respect, create something that tells it, and share it on the Gallery. Then explore what students in other countries learned about their own traditions. One question, three steps, and your classroom connected to the world. 🛡️Note: when sharing photos or videos, we suggest protecting children's identities — for example, by showing their hands, their work, or filming them from behind. Children's privacy comes first. 🏅 To receive the certificate, participation must include two actions: sharing students' work on the Board and commenting on at least one other classroom's work.

Obiettivi di apprendimento
Students will be able to identify and describe a story, word, or custom from the Indigenous Peoples of their country and explain why it matters to their family, community, or culture.
Students will be able to demonstrate that story, word, or custom through a creative resource and share it with international peers in a clear and respectful way.
Students will be able to compare the traditions and perspectives shared by their international partners, evaluating how learning about different Indigenous Peoples changes or grows their own understanding of cultural diversity and identity.

Talk
Students talk about what they know regarding the Indigenous Peoples of their country or region: a word, a story, a dance, a craft technique, the origin of a place name. The teacher guides the reflection on why it is worth knowing and sharing these traditions, which are still alive today, being careful not to reduce them to stereotypes.
Create
Students choose a story, word, or custom and briefly research it using reliable sources (family, community, school library, internet with teacher guidance). They create a resource that shares it: a drawing, a paper infographic, a concept map, or a simple model. They upload it to the gallery.
Share and Explore
Students explore the gallery to discover what other countries' classrooms shared, comparing similarities and differences among the Indigenous Peoples of different regions of the world.

Tunisia“My Roots to the World” was a very meaningful and creative experience. We explored the artistic ceramics of Nabeul, a beautiful part of Tunisian cultural heritage, and transformed our discoveries into a video. Creating the video allowed us to combine research, storytelling, creativity, and technology. It was a way to present our cultural heritage in a modern and engaging form. The project also helped us realise that sharing our traditions can create connections with people from different cultures and countries. we really enjoyed this experience because it gave us the opportunity to celebrate our roots, express our creativity, and share a piece of Tunisia with the world.

India✨ My Experience as a Teacher Guiding my Grade VIII students in the Kaushal Bodh Home Automation Program has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my teaching journey. Watching young learners transform abstract concepts into practical innovations — such as robots, automatic light sensors, smart water pump controllers, and rainwater detectors — reaffirmed my belief in experiential learning. FilippineThe execution of the "Changemaker's Mission: My Roots to the World" project served as a meaningful bridge between localized traditional knowledge and modern scientific inquiry. Integrated into our lesson on Indigenous Science in Philippine Culture, the activity challenged students to look closely at local ways of knowing from sustainable agricultural methods and climate forecasting to native healing practices and traditional ecology and present them as valid, valuable systems of science. By asking students to identify an indigenous tradition to share with the global community, the project transformed theoretical discussions on socio-cultural technologies into an active practice of cultural preservation and academic advocacy.
