Designing a Cyber Safety Toolkit

What is this project about?

Joint student teams design and build a cybersecurity awareness resource, such as a simple security game, guide, or phishing simulation, tailored to their peers. They test it with the partner class and refine it based on feedback.
Age of Students
16-18 years
Project Duration
32 weeks
Starting Month
September 2027

Learning Outcomes

Students will be able to identify common cyber threats, such as phishing and weak passwords, affecting teenagers in their community and partner classroom.
Remember / Understand
Students will be able to apply digital literacy skills to use security tools and collaborative platforms when prototyping a cyber safety resource with international peers.
Apply
Students will be able to analyze peer and partner-class feedback to compare how cyber risks and safety habits differ across local and international contexts.
Analyze
Students will be able to evaluate the effectiveness of their cyber safety toolkit prototype through user testing, justifying revisions based on collaborative feedback.
Evaluate
Students will be able to design and build an original cyber safety toolkit, such as a security game or phishing simulation, that addresses a real need in their community.

Project Activities

1

Kick-off: Cyber Threats in Our Lives

Students introduce themselves to the partner class and share which online risks they see among teens, like phishing and weak passwords. They then vote on the toolkit type they want to build.

Duration: 180 minutes
Delivery: Video
2

Local and Global Threat Research

Students in mixed local and partner teams interview peers and research common cyber threats in both communities. They compare habits and risks and record the findings in a shared document.

Duration: 900 minutes
Delivery: Comparative Chart
3

Design and Build the Cyber Safety Toolkit

Teams create their toolkit, such as a security game, guide, or phishing simulation, using digital tools and shared platforms. They make decisions together and divide roles fairly.

Duration: 1,200 minutes
Delivery: Prototype
4

User Testing and Partner Feedback

Each team tests its prototype with peers from the partner class and collects feedback through a shared form. They analyze how results differ between the two contexts.

Duration: 720 minutes
Delivery: Peer Feedback Form
5

Iterate and Refine the Toolkit

Teams use the feedback to decide which changes to make, justify each revision, and improve the prototype. They record why each change matters.

Duration: 660 minutes
6

Final Showcase and Reflection

Teams present their final toolkit to the partner class in a video call and reflect on what they learned about global cyber safety. Peers give closing feedback.

Duration: 180 minutes
Delivery: Exhibition or Showcase
