Discovering Our Special Places
Students share and discuss their favorite local spots in the classroom, explaining what makes each place special. The teacher introduces the project and shows examples of different community gathering places from around the world.
Exploring and Documenting Our Favorite Spot
Students visit their chosen local place (park, market, playground, etc.) with a family member or guardian, take photos, and write or draw descriptions of what they see, who gathers there, and why it matters to them. They collect sensory details and personal observations.
Preparing for the Global Exchange
Students organize their photos and descriptions into a simple presentation or poster about their local spot. They practice describing their place in clear, engaging language and prepare questions to ask the partner class about their favorite places.
Live Video Exchange with Partner Class
Students join a scheduled video call with the partner classroom to share their favorite local spots, show photos, and ask questions. They listen to how children in another country play and gather, and discover similarities and differences in their communities.
Reflecting on Our Global Connections
Students create a simple comparison chart or drawing showing what they learned about their own place and the partner class's places. They reflect on what surprised them and what they have in common with children around the world.
