Greeting Circle: Introducing Gĩkũyũ and Our Classes
Students and partner classes meet through a short video call, introduce themselves, and share one greeting from their own language. Students listen to a first Gĩkũyũ greeting and try it out with a partner.
Listening and Learning Core Gĩkũyũ Phrases
Students listen to guided audio of everyday greetings and common expressions, then practice them in pairs. They write down each phrase and its meaning in their own notebook or digital log.
Cultural Meaning Research and Comparison
Students research when and why each greeting is used in Gĩkũyũ-speaking communities and compare it with greetings from their own culture. Small groups prepare short notes explaining what each phrase says about respect, family, and community.
Asynchronous Greeting Exchange with Partner Class
Students record short video greetings and common expressions in Gĩkũyũ and their own language, then post them on a shared board. Partner class students reply with their own greetings and questions about cultural meaning.
Greeting Showcase and Reflection
Students present a short guided explanation of the greetings they learned and the cultural meaning behind them to the partner class. Both classes reflect together on what intercultural communication taught them.
