Global Show, Culture Glow

Students introduce themselves and their city or country through a fun creative activity, sharing one cultural element they are excited to showcase. This sets the tone for the project and helps students think about what makes their culture unique and worth sharing with the world.

Students research and document their own city or country's key cultural traditions, foods, customs, and values through interviews with family members, online research, and community exploration. They create a detailed inventory of what they will showcase, identifying which elements best represent their community's identity and connect to global themes like sustainability, community, or identity.

Students work in small teams to design the week-long cultural showcase, creating presentations, recipe cards with instructions and cultural significance, written explanations of traditions, and planning interactive activities. They ensure their content is authentic, inclusive, and engaging for a global audience, using simple tools like slides, posters, or written guides.

Students share their showcase content with the international partner class asynchronously through a shared platform or forum, then review and respond to the partner class's cultural showcase. They provide constructive feedback on how well the content communicates traditions and suggest ideas for making the presentation more engaging or clearer for a global audience.

Based on partner feedback, students revise and polish their cultural showcase content, practice their presentation, and prepare discussion questions that connect their traditions to global themes. They plan how to facilitate interactive activities during the live video call and ensure everyone has a clear role in representing their culture authentically.

Students lead a live video call with the international partner class, presenting their cultural showcase, facilitating interactive activities, and engaging in meaningful dialogue about how their traditions connect to sustainability, community values, and shared human experiences. They listen actively to the partner class's perspectives and build genuine connections across cultures.

Students reflect on what they learned about their own culture, how they grew as communicators and global citizens, and what surprised or inspired them about the partner class's traditions. They celebrate their achievement by sharing highlights, discussing how cultural exchange builds empathy and understanding, and considering how they might stay connected with their international peers.
