Læringsmål
Students will be able to identify and describe the biomechanics of different exercises and explain how muscle groups and energy systems function across diverse fitness traditions.

Movement Around the World: Exploring Fitness Traditions
Students watch short video clips of fitness practices from different cultures (yoga, capoeira, martial arts, dance, calisthenics) and discuss how movement varies globally. They share their own favorite exercise or sport and begin to notice the science behind it, setting up curiosity for the biomechanics work ahead.
Biomechanics Deep Dive: Measuring Movement and Energy
Students learn core biomechanical concepts (muscle groups, force, balance, energy systems) through guided research, videos, and simple hands-on measurements (e.g., timing balance holds, measuring jump height, calculating BMI). They document findings in a research journal and prepare to share their learning with the partner class.
Live Exchange and Collaborative Design Challenge
During a video call with the partner class, students present their biomechanical findings, compare fitness traditions, and work in mixed pairs to brainstorm a new exercise that blends both cultures' approaches. They sketch the movement, identify which muscles and energy systems it uses, and agree on next steps for testing and refinement.
Engineer and Test the Cross-Cultural Fitness Tool
Students create a detailed guide with diagrams, step-by-step instructions, and scientific explanations for their designed exercise. They test it with another class in their school, gather feedback on clarity and effectiveness, and refine the guide based on real user experience and biomechanical data.
Showcase and Reflect: Global Fitness Innovation Fair
Students present their final fitness innovation to the school community, explaining the biomechanics, cultural origins, and real-world testing results. They reflect on what they learned about science, culture, and collaboration, and consider how their tool could promote healthy, active lifestyles worldwide.
