Analyzing English Across Cultures

Students introduce themselves and their local English classroom culture through a short video message or written introduction. They share examples of how they speak and write English, then watch or read introductions from the partner class to begin noticing differences in grammar, idioms, and style.

Students conduct and record interviews with their partner class peers, asking about grammar rules they use, favorite idioms, and how they speak in different situations. They collect real examples of English from their partners and organize them by category (grammar, idioms, speaking style).

Working in small groups, students compare the language examples they collected from their own classroom with those from the partner class. They create a visual comparison chart or concept map showing grammatical patterns, idioms, and speaking conventions that differ between the two communities and identify why those differences might exist.

Students research and discuss why certain grammatical structures, idioms, and speaking styles are preferred in different English-speaking communities. They write short explanations connecting language choices to cultural values, history, or daily life in each community.

Students present their findings to the class and partner class through slides or a recorded presentation, explaining what they learned about how English varies across cultures and why that diversity matters. They reflect on how their understanding of English and intercultural communication has grown.
