Recycling Challenge: What's Happening in Our Community?
Students explore their own recycling practices and challenges through observation and interviews, then meet their partner class via video call to introduce their community's recycling situation and learn about theirs. This kick-off builds connection and uncovers the real problems both classes will tackle together.
Investigate and Compare: Recycling Systems Across Communities
Students research their local recycling infrastructure, barriers, and existing solutions, then analyze what their partner class discovered. They create a simple comparison chart or visual showing how the two communities' recycling systems differ and what gaps or opportunities exist.
Co-Design a Recycling Solution with Your Partner Class
Working in mixed teams (some students from each class, asynchronously or during a second brief video call), students brainstorm and evaluate multiple recycling improvement ideas, then collaboratively design a practical toolkit, poster, checklist, or short video guide that both communities can actually use. They justify their choice based on feasibility, environmental impact, and real community needs.
