Hello, Habari: Introduce Yourself to the Partner Class
Students learn the basic Swahili greetings and phrases, then join a kick-off video call with the partner class in Kenya or East Africa to meet each other and agree on how the exchange will work.
Learn and Practise Everyday Swahili Expressions
Students study common greetings and daily expressions, practise them in pairs, and write down how and when each one is used in their own community. They then compare these notes with the expressions and contexts shared by the partner class.
Record and Exchange Audio Introductions
Students plan, record, and edit short audio introductions in Swahili, then share them with the partner learners. They listen to their partners' recordings and reply with comments on how greetings differ between the two contexts.
Compare Greetings Across Cultures: Analysis and Research
Students work in mixed pairs with partner learners to research how greetings and everyday expressions are used in Kenyan and East African daily life, and in their own context. They analyse the differences, reflect on what they reveal about culture and respect, and record their findings.
Showcase and Reflect on Intercultural Learning
Students present a comparison of their findings to the class and the partner class in a joint video call. They then reflect individually on what they learned about communication, empathy, and their own assumptions.
