¿De qué trata este proyecto?

This project focused on creating global connections to explore the impacts of climate change worldwide. Students from the USA engaged with peers from various countries to discuss how climate change affects their local community; the students from the USA then created podcasts of the discussion. This aimed to foster a sense of shared responsibility for environmental action.

Step 1: Introduction and awareness

  • American students watched the National Geographic documentary "Before the Flood" to spark curiosity and give information about global climate change.
  • Class discussions were held where students shared their thoughts on the documentary and about the seriousness of climate change.

Step 2: Personal impact assessment
  • Students used the "United Nations Carbon Footprint" tool to measure their personal environmental impact.
  • They reflected on their personal contributions to climate change.

Step 3: Preparation for global engagement
  • Students developed questions to ask peers from different countries about climate change effects in their regions.
  • They prepared for conducting interviews by gathering relative information and creating questions.

Step 4: Global connections and interviews
  • Over two weeks, the 7th grade class connected via video calls with students from Argentina, Tunisia, Brazil, Bulgaria, India, and Bangladesh.
  • They conducted 30-40 minute interviews, sharing insights on climate change impacts in their respective countries.

Step 5: Content creation
  • Students worked in small groups of two to three to turn the interviews into podcast episodes.
  • They learned and utilized audio editing tools to produce the podcasts.

Step 6: Presentation and sharing
  • The class created a dedicated website to present their findings and host the podcast episodes.
  • They launched the podcast series titled "Class2Class.org Climate Chats."

Step 7: Reflection and impact assessment
  • Students reflected on their experience, discussing initial nervousness and eventual pride in their accomplishments.
  • The class evaluated the impact of the project on their understanding of climate change and global perspectives.
