5. Project Steps
Step 1: Share My Sweet Heritage
Activity:
- As a class, students discuss and select 1–2 traditional desserts from their community.
- Then, create a presentation explaining the selected dessert and the cultural story behind it.
- Share this presentation on the project board.
- Use a template to help structure students’ ideas (name of dessert, ingredients, celebration, origin story).
Activity:
- Use the ideas from Step 1 to create a short vertical video (up to 2 minutes) showing the dessert and telling its story.
- Post the video on the project board.
- Students watch at least 2 videos from other classes and comment on their favorites.
- Connect with one or more participating teachers to create a shared YouTube playlist showcasing the full collection of dessert videos from all classes.
Activity:
- Students reflect on what they learned about their own and others' cultures.
- They post a comment on the project board answering:
- What dessert inspired you the most?
- What did you enjoy about making your video?
- What surprised you in this project?
- Share the YouTube playlist link (if created) as part of the class reflection.
- Connect with a participating teacher to organize a 20-minute online celebration to share highlights and learning together.
Assessment and reflection
- Use a simple reflection form with the following three questions:
- What did I learn from other students’ dessert stories?
- What inspired me the most during this project?
- How can I continue learning about different cultures through food?
- Teachers can evaluate students based on:
- Participation – Level of engagement throughout the activities.
- Creativity – Originality and effort in storytelling and video presentation.
- Collaborative Spirit – Willingness to engage with peers, comment, and celebrate others’ work.
