Our Celebrations Around the World
Students explore their own cultural celebrations and traditions through images, stories, and discussions, then learn about their partner class's country and culture through a short video or presentation. This icebreaker builds excitement and shared understanding before deeper collaboration begins.
Getting to Know Our Partners: Live Exchange
Students participate in a live video call with their partner class to introduce themselves, share key traditions and celebrations from their culture, and ask questions about each other's daily life and customs. This real-time conversation sets the foundation for collaborative planning.
Research and Plan the Hybrid Celebration
Working in small groups, students research specific traditions, recipes, music, rituals, or activities from both cultures and begin planning how to blend them into one shared celebration. Groups create a planning document or shared board with ideas, timelines, and role assignments.
Collaborate with Partner Class: Feedback and Refinement
Students share their hybrid celebration plans with the partner class through a shared document or forum and receive peer feedback on how well the blend honors both cultures. Teams refine their ideas based on feedback and finalize decisions on activities, recipes, and presentation order.
Create a Shared Celebration Guide or Video
Students produce a detailed guide (written with photos and illustrations) or short video that documents the hybrid celebration, including step-by-step instructions, recipes, music suggestions, and explanations of how each element honors both cultures. This becomes a resource that both classes can use to run the celebration.
Celebrate, Reflect, and Share Learning
Students present their hybrid celebration guide or video to both classes in a final live or recorded session, explain what they learned about intercultural collaboration, and reflect on how working with international peers deepened their understanding of global citizenship and cultural respect.
