Our Schools, Their Schools: Building Bridges Through Letters

Students write individual introduction letters to their pen pals in partner classrooms, describing themselves, their school, a typical day, favorite subjects, and what makes their school unique. They also prepare to receive and read letters back from their international partners.

Students read and analyze pen pal letters, identifying key details about school systems in different countries. They conduct small group discussions to extract similarities and differences, then begin building a shared comparison chart with their partner class using a collaborative online tool or shared document.

Students interview their pen pals (via asynchronous video, voice message, or written questions) to dig deeper into specific aspects of school life, such as daily routines, subjects offered, or cultural traditions. They gather additional research on their partner countries' education systems and add findings to the growing comparison chart.

Students organize all collected information into a comprehensive comparison chart showing similarities and differences across school systems. They work in mixed groups to synthesize data, add visual elements, and prepare insights about what they have learned.

Students select one topic from the list (music, Ireland, Australia, New York, cyber crime, fair trade, rights of young people, reading books, free time activities, or travelling) that interests them most, then research how that topic connects to school life in their own country and prepare 2-3 specific questions to ask their pen pals about it.
