Mapping Pronunciation Differences

¿De qué trata este proyecto?

Students analyze recorded speech samples from both classes, identifying vowels, consonants, and stress patterns using simple phonetic symbols. They evaluate which features cause misunderstandings and present their findings in the live exchange.
Edad de los estudiantes
6-8 años, 9-12 años, 13-15 años, 16-18 años, 18+ años
Duración del proyecto
3 semanas
Mes de inicio
Noviembre 2026

Objetivos de aprendizaje

Students will be able to identify and describe key vowels, consonants, and stress patterns in recorded speech samples from their own class and a partner class.
Recordar / Comprender
Students will be able to use simple phonetic symbols to transcribe and compare pronunciation features collaboratively with peers from the partner classroom.
Aplicar
Students will be able to analyze which pronunciation differences cause misunderstandings between the two classes and explain the reasons behind them.
Analizar
Students will be able to evaluate the impact of pronunciation differences on intercultural communication and present well-supported recommendations during the live exchange.

Actividades del proyecto

1

Kick-off: Introducing Our Voices and Accents

Students meet their partner class on a video call, introduce themselves, and share a short greeting in their own language and accent. Together they begin to notice how sounds and rhythms differ across the two classes.

Duración: 60 minutos
2

Recording and Transcribing Speech Samples

Each class records short speech samples and students listen closely to identify vowels, consonants, and stress patterns. They mark what they hear using simple phonetic symbols and share their transcriptions with the partner class to compare.

Duración: 300 minutos
3

Analyzing Pronunciation Differences Across Classes

Working in mixed teams with partner classmates, students compare transcriptions and decide which pronunciation differences caused misunderstandings. They discuss the reasons behind each difference and record their findings in a shared document.

Duración: 300 minutos
4

Building Recommendations for Clearer Communication

Students evaluate how pronunciation differences affect intercultural communication and propose practical tips for clearer understanding. Teams test their suggestions by re-recording sample phrases and checking them with the partner class.

Duración: 180 minutos
5

Live Exchange: Presenting Findings and Recommendations

During a final video call, student teams present their phonetic findings, explain the misunderstandings they discovered, and share their recommendations. Both classes reflect together on what they learned about communicating across accents.

Duración: 60 minutos
