Local English, Global Voices: Celebrating How We Speak English

Students explore what English looks like in their own country through photos, signs, and media they find around them. They discuss why English words appear in their local language and share examples with classmates to build excitement for the project.

Students hunt for localized English expressions (Konglish, Chinglish, Singlish, etc.) in their community, recording where they find them and what they mean. They work in small groups to research at least 5-10 expressions, noting the original English, the local version, and how it blends with their language and culture.

Students design colorful visual cards for their collected expressions, showing the local version, English meaning, and context. They then play guessing games with classmates to test understanding and have fun discovering how creative and natural these expressions are.

Students select their best expression cards and prepare short explanations for their international partner class. They record brief videos or write descriptions showing each expression and why it matters in their culture, then share asynchronously on the Class2Class platform for feedback.

Students join a live video call with their partner class to play a guessing game using their expression cards and chat about what they learned. They ask each other questions about why certain expressions exist and share what surprised them about each other's versions of English.

Students reflect on what they discovered about how English changes across cultures and why that matters. They create a short personal reflection or poster celebrating the diversity of English and sharing one key insight about multilingualism and cultural creativity with the class.
