Letters of the World : Exploring Writing Systems Globally

Students discover the history and unique features of their native alphabet or writing system through research, discussion, and hands-on exploration. They learn why their writing system looks the way it does and what makes it special compared to other alphabets around the world.

Students design a colorful visual guide showing letters or characters from their alphabet paired with illustrations, symbols, or short descriptions that capture the cultural and historical significance of their writing system. This guide will be shared with international partner classes.

Students receive visual guides from their international partner class and compare how different writing systems look, function, and reflect cultural values. They analyze similarities and differences, then create a simple comparison chart or reflection showing what they learned about global diversity in writing.

Students present their alphabet guide and comparison findings to the class, sharing what they discovered about their own writing system and how it connects to other alphabets around the world. They reflect on what they learned about intercultural communication and global awareness.
