Our Clothes, Our Stories: Repair Traditions Around the World
Students share clothing items that need repair and discuss why mending clothes matters in their community. The teacher introduces satin stitching and naming traditions, then students explore how different cultures repair and personalize garments through photos, stories, or short videos from their partner class.
Learn and Practice Satin Stitching Techniques
Students learn satin stitching through demonstration and hands-on practice on scrap fabric. They practice basic stitches, then begin planning which names or meaningful patterns they will stitch onto their own garment repair projects.
Design, Repair, and Personalize Your Garment
Students repair their chosen clothing item using satin stitching to add a name or meaningful pattern. They document their process with photos or a simple video showing the before, during, and after of their repair work.
Live Exchange and Showcase with Partner Class
Students present their finished repaired garments to their international partner class via video call, explaining the name or pattern they stitched, why it is meaningful, and how repair and personalization connect to their community's values. They listen to and ask questions about their partners' projects.
