Exploring Our Special Places
Students take a guided walk around their school and neighborhood, identifying and talking about places that make them happy or feel special. The teacher helps them notice details and ask questions like 'What do we see here?' and 'Why do we like this place?'
Drawing and Describing Our Favorite Spaces
Students draw or paint their favorite community places using colors, shapes, and simple details. They dictate or write short descriptions about what they see and why each place matters to them, creating pages for their community guide.
Sharing and Comparing with Partner Classes
Students view photos and drawings from partner classes around the world, noticing similarities and differences in the special places other children love. They talk together about what makes places special everywhere, building empathy and global awareness.
Creating Our Celebration Guide
The class combines their drawings, photos, and descriptions with pages from partner classes into a shared digital or printed picture book that celebrates communities around the world. Students help arrange pages, add simple captions, and decorate the cover together.
Sharing Our Guide and Reflecting Together
Students present their completed community guide to families and the partner class, pointing out their favorite pages and explaining what they learned about places that matter. They reflect on what makes their community special and why caring for these places is important.
