What is this project about?
"Literacy Leaders" is a project idea that challenges students aged 13 to 19 to become advocates for literacy in their communities and beyond. Using design thinking methodology, students will identify literacy challenges, develop innovative solutions, and implement community-based literacy initiatives. This project empowers young people to take an active role in promoting literacy and education while developing crucial skills in problem-solving, leadership, and intercultural collaboration.

Step 1: Empathize
- Introduce the project and form teams.
- Guide students in researching global literacy issues and local challenges.
- Conduct interviews or surveys with community members to understand literacy needs
Step 2: Define
- Analyze research findings and identify specific literacy challenges to address.
- Help teams create problem statements that clearly define the literacy issues they'll tackle, and share this information in the board section of the Class2Class.org platform.
- Encourage teams to establish project goals and success criteria.
Step 3: Ideate
- Facilitate brainstorming sessions among class teams to generate innovative solutions to literacy challenges. If possible, organize brainstorming sessions with teams from the partner class to enhance learning.
- Guide teams in evaluating and refining their ideas. You can share this information in the board section of the Class2Class.org platform.
- Encourage collaboration between teams and the exchange of ideas to enrich the creative process and achieve more effective solutions.
Step 4: Prototype y test
- Support teams in developing prototypes or pilot programs for their literacy initiatives. Some examples:
- Multicultural reading club prototype. Create a reading club that includes books and resources in multiple languages, where members can discuss and share cultural perspectives.
- Literacy tutors program. Implement a program where older students act as literacy tutors for younger children in their community, providing personalized support and educational resources.
- Social media literacy campaign. Develop a social media campaign to promote the importance of literacy, sharing resources, inspiring stories, and reading challenges that engage the community.
- Provide resources and guidance to teams during the development of their prototypes.
- Facilitate feedback sessions with community stakeholders or literacy experts.
- Help teams implement their literacy initiatives on a small scale.
- Guide students in collecting data and feedback on their initiatives' effectiveness.
- Facilitate reflection and iteration based on test results.
Step 5: Implement and share
- Support the teams in implementing their improved literacy initiatives in their communities.
- Organize a video call for the teams to present their projects and results.
- Facilitate reflection on the impact of the initiatives and lessons learned.
- Share resources and project success stories on the board section of the Class2Class.org platform.
