Week 1
Presentation
Phase:Presentation & Dissemination
Step 1: Research and discovery
- Teachers introduce the project by explaining its purpose and guiding students to explore the topic.
- Students research significant symbols from their own culture, investigating their history, meaning, and importance.
Step 2: Virtual Exchange
- Students create digital cards featuring images and descriptions of cultural symbols representing their country and share them on the platform's board.
- They are guided to analyze and compare the similarities and differences between the cultural symbols of the partner classes.
- Then, they participate in an interactive challenge where they must match international symbols with their correct meanings or cultural contexts. To do this:
- a) Students are organized into teams.
- b) Each team receives a set of cultural symbols without descriptions and a list of possible meanings or contexts.
- c) Through discussions and teamwork, they analyze and correctly match each symbol with its meaning.
- Finally, teams present their answers and reflect on their key takeaways.
Step 3: Reflection and celebration
- Coordinate with the partner class to schedule a virtual meeting.
- Develop a session plan to ensure all students participate equally.
- Moderate a discussion where students share their insights on cultural symbols, focusing on:
- Similarities and differences they observed between the symbols from each culture.
- How these symbols reflect national identity, history, and values.
- The most surprising or interesting aspects they discovered.
- Encourage students to reflect on how this experience deepened their understanding of their international peers.
- Document key ideas on the board of the platform to continue the discussion beyond the meeting.
Assessment and reflection ✍️
Assessment. Evaluate students based on:
- The depth of their research about their own cultural symbols.
- Their engagement during virtual exchanges with international peers.
- The quality and creativity of your contributions to the digital cards.
- Their ability to explain and interpret the significance of cultural symbols.
- Guide students to reflect on how exploring different cultural symbols has enriched their understanding of diverse traditions and identities. Example:
- How has learning about other cultures' symbols changed their perception of those cultures?
- What similarities did they discover across different cultural symbols?
- How do symbols help preserve and communicate cultural heritage?
- What new insights have they gained about their own cultural symbols through explaining them to others?
- Encourage them to journal about which symbols resonated with them the most and why, considering their significance and impact.
