What is this project about?

"Biodiversity Buddies" is an engaging and collaborative project that invites students aged 6-13 from around the world to celebrate the incredible diversity of life on Earth. Through a series of interactive activities, creative challenges, and global partnerships, students will explore the wonders of biodiversity, learn about the importance of conservation, and develop a deep appreciation for the interconnectedness of all living things.

Step 1: Biodiversity pen pals

  • Students are paired with international partners to form "Biodiversity Buddy" teams.
  • Throughout the project, students exchange letters, artwork, and videos to share their learning experiences and local biodiversity stories.
  • Teachers facilitate meaningful conversations and cultural exchange between buddy teams.

Step 2: Species spotlight
  • The students collaborate with their buddy teams to research and present a different species from their local ecosystems.
  • Teams create engaging presentations, posters, or videos to showcase the unique characteristics, habitats, and conservation status of their chosen species.
  • Students participate in virtual "Species spotlight" sessions to share their findings and learn from their global peers.

Step 3: Habitat hunters
  • Students embark on virtual field trips to explore diverse habitats and ecosystems around the world.
  • Teachers facilitate discussions on the importance of habitat conservation and the threats facing different ecosystems.

Step 4: Collaborative story weaving
  • Students collaborate with their buddy teams to create biodiversity-themed stories, poems, or comics.
  • Each team member contributes a part of the story, building upon the previous contributions and weaving in elements of their local biodiversity.
  • Teams share their completed stories with the global community, celebrating the power of collaboration and creativity.

Step 5: Biodiversity action projects
  • Students brainstorm ideas, plan activities, and support each other in taking action to protect local species and habitats.
  • Teams create project portfolios and share their experiences and impact with the global community.
