Project Activities
What Makes Me, Me? Getting to Know Identity Across Cultures
Students explore their own identity through reflection on influences (family, school, social media, culture) and share initial thoughts with classmates. Then they meet their partner class via video call, introduce themselves, and discuss what 'identity' means in their different contexts to build rapport and set the stage for the research ahead.
Design and Pilot Your Interview and Survey Tools
Students work in small groups to design interview questions and survey items that explore how social media, family, school, and local culture shape adolescent identity. They test their tools with classmates, refine them based on feedback, and prepare to conduct them with the partner class.
Conduct Interviews and Surveys with Partner Class; Gather and Organize Data
Students conduct interviews and surveys with peers in the partner class using asynchronous video messages, shared forms, or live chat sessions (scheduled across time zones). They collect responses, organize the data into charts or spreadsheets, and begin to spot patterns and differences between their own culture and the partner culture.
Analyze Findings and Prepare Comparative Insights
Students analyze the data they gathered, compare patterns across cultures, and identify key insights about how social media, family, school, and local context influence identity differently in each country. They prepare visual summaries (infographics, charts, or concept maps) and talking points to share with the partner class.
Live Video Exchange: Present Findings and Reflect on Global Citizenship
Students present their comparative findings to the partner class via live video call, share what surprised them, discuss how understanding different cultures shapes their view of digital citizenship, and reflect together on what it means to be a conscious global citizen in the age of social media.
