This project contributes to the following global goals

Learning Outcomes

Students will be able to identify the light, nutrient solution, and water conditions that affect hydroponic plant growth, sharing their observations with partner classes abroad.
Remember / Understand
Students will be able to apply measurement tools to record plant growth in a shared data table with partner classrooms in other countries.
Apply
Students will be able to compare and contrast hydroponic and soil-based growth results with partner classes, identifying patterns across different climates.
Analyze
Students will be able to evaluate which hydroponic growth conditions work best in their local climate, justifying their choices using evidence shared with international peers.

Project Activities

1

Meet the partner class and plant our first seeds

Students introduce themselves to the partner class, share their local climate, and set up seedlings in a simple water-based system and a soil pot to compare later.

Duration: 45 minutes
2

Test light, nutrient, and water conditions

Students change one condition at a time (light, nutrient strength, water changes), measure plant growth weekly, and record results in a shared data table with the partner class.

Duration: 200 minutes
3

Compare results across climates and choose the best conditions

Students analyze the shared data with the partner class, compare hydroponic and soil growth, and decide which conditions would work best in their local climate using evidence.

Duration: 75 minutes
4

Share findings and recommendations with the partner class

Students present their results, explain their recommendations for their local climate, and reflect together on what they learned about teamwork and global farming.

Duration: 40 minutes
