Testing Cognitive Integration in Practice

What is this project about?

Students investigate how divergent and convergent thinking alternate in real tasks, collecting data from local teachers and partner classes. They analyze which classroom designs best support integrated thinking and present evidence-based comparisons.
Age of Students
18+ years
Project Duration
16 weeks
Starting Month
November 2026

This project contributes to the following global goals

This project promotes and protects these children's rights

Learning Outcomes

Students will be able to identify and describe how divergent and convergent thinking alternate across real tasks in their local classrooms and partner classes.
Remember / Understand
Students will be able to use a shared data collection protocol to gather evidence on integrated thinking from local teachers and partner class students.
Apply
Students will be able to compare and contrast classroom designs from different countries to differentiate which best support integrated critical thinking and creative problem-solving.
Analyze
Students will be able to evaluate, through collaborative evidence-based reports, which classroom design best supports integrated thinking across diverse international contexts.

Project Activities

1

Kick-off video call and shared data protocol

Students meet their partner class by video, introduce themselves, and agree on a shared way to record examples of divergent and convergent thinking in real tasks. Each class explains how they will gather evidence from local teachers and students.

Duration: 240 minutes
2

Field research: observing thinking in real tasks

Students observe lessons and tasks in their local classrooms, interview teachers, and collect examples of when thinking shifts between generating ideas and choosing the best one. They record their findings using the shared protocol and share the data with the partner class.

Duration: 1,800 minutes
3

Cross-country data analysis and classroom design comparison

Working in mixed international teams, students combine the collected data and compare the classroom designs of both countries. They identify which features seem to best support integrated critical thinking and creative problem-solving.

Duration: 2,400 minutes
4

Evidence-based collaborative report

Teams draft a joint report that evaluates which classroom design best supports integrated thinking across the two contexts. They use their data to justify conclusions and give each other structured peer feedback to revise their work.

Duration: 2,400 minutes
5

Final showcase and reflection

Students present their comparisons and recommendations to the partner class and local teachers in a shared video session. They reflect individually and together on how their own thinking and collaboration changed during the project.

Duration: 960 minutes
