Sharing Our Local Stories

Students identify a meaningful local challenge or opportunity in their own community and document it through photos, notes, or a short video. They prepare to share their story, considering what makes their community's experience unique and what questions they have about how other places face similar issues.

Students create a short video (2-3 minutes) or visual presentation showing their community's challenge or opportunity, including context and their perspective. They upload their story to a shared digital space (forum, shared folder, or simple platform) so partner classes can view and begin to understand each other's realities.

Students join a scheduled video call with the partner class to present their stories, ask questions, and listen to how other communities experience similar issues. They take notes on surprising similarities, differences, and new perspectives they hear directly from their peers.

Working in small groups, students review all shared stories (their own and the partner class's) and identify common themes, cultural differences, and surprising connections across the two communities. They create a comparative analysis or concept map showing how different cultures approach or experience the same challenge, then share their findings in a shared digital document.

Students prepare and deliver a final presentation reflecting on what they learned about their own community, the partner community, and how cultural perspectives shape responses to shared challenges. They articulate the intercultural communication strategies they used and how their understanding of global interconnectedness has grown.
