Project Activities
Plastic Detectives: Finding Trash Around Us
Students go on a short walk or explore their classroom and home to spot plastic waste. They talk about what they find, draw or point to plastic items, and share why we should recycle them. The teacher helps them understand that plastic is everywhere and that turning it into something new is fun and helps the planet.
Collect, Sort, and Plan Our Creations
Students bring plastic waste from home (bottles, containers, lids, bags) and sort it by type and color. Working in small groups, they explore the materials, imagine what toys or art they could make, and draw or describe their ideas before building.
Make and Decorate: Building Plastic Treasures
Students use safe tools and simple techniques (cutting, stacking, gluing, painting) to transform their plastic waste into toys, art, or useful objects. The teacher guides them to think about what they are making and why someone else might enjoy it or find it useful.
Photograph and Share with Our Partner Class
Students photograph their finished creations and the teacher uploads the photos to a shared space where the partner class can see them. Both classes look at each other's designs, talk about what they like, and vote on their favorite recycled creations. Students notice the different ways other children used plastic and get ideas for new things they could make.
Celebrate and Reflect: Our Plastic Treasures
Students display their creations in the classroom, talk about what they made and why, and share what they learned from seeing their partner class's ideas. The teacher helps them think about how they turned trash into something special and why that matters for the Earth.
