Project Activities

1

Plan the Class2Class Schedule, Pen-Pal Pairs, and Mailing Steps

Teachers agree together on the project calendar, which student pen-pals will be paired, how postcards will be mailed, and a Zoom Friendship Meeting time that works across time zones. Doing this first keeps both classes aligned for the whole project.

Duration: 120 minutes
2

Discovering Our Partner Country: Postcards, Flags, Places and Culture

Children learn what a postcard is, find their partner country's name and flag on a map, and watch short school videos about its landmarks and traditions. They then talk about what they found and share one thing they would like to know more about.

Duration: 120 minutes
3

Creating Our Class Postcards for Our Pen Pals

Children design and decorate a postcard for their pen pal, starting with the greeting "Hello, [Partner's Name]! My name is [Child's Name]." Teachers help children write names and addresses correctly so the postcards can be mailed without errors.

Duration: 120 minutes
4

Visiting the Post Office to Send Our Postcards

Children visit a local post office with their teacher to learn how postcards are mailed abroad, then send their class postcards to the partner school. They watch how letters are weighed, stamped, and sorted, and ask questions along the way.

Duration: 120 minutes
5

Waiting for Our Postcards: Tracking the Journey

Students follow the postcards' journey on a classroom map, predict when they will arrive, and draw or write what they think the partner class's postcards will show. They check the map each week and talk about the waiting.

Duration: 480 minutes
6

Zoom Friendship Meeting: Meeting Pen Pals, Sharing Postcards, and Singing Together

After receiving their postcards, children meet their pen pals on Zoom and introduce themselves one by one. Each child shows the postcard they received, shares or asks simple questions about the messages and pictures inside, and interacts with their pen pal. To end the meeting, both classes sing a short song together.
