Students will be able to demonstrate collaborative interview techniques with family members and peers to gather data about physical fitness challenges across different cultural contexts.
Students will be able to compare and contrast barriers to physical activity between their local community and their international partner class, analyzing cultural and environmental differences.
Students will be able to evaluate which barriers to physical activity are most significant in their context and propose collaborative solutions informed by global perspectives shared with international partners.
Skills to develop
Project Activities
What Makes It Hard to Stay Active? Local Barriers Hunt
Students interview 2-3 family members or peers to discover what stops them from being physically active. They record answers on a simple sheet, noting barriers like time, cost, weather, or access to facilities, then share findings in small groups to spot patterns.
Analyze Local Barriers and Prepare for Global Exchange
Students sort and discuss the barriers they found, create a simple summary chart of the top 3-4 barriers in their community, and prepare 2-3 questions to ask their international partner class about barriers in their context. They record a short video or write a brief message introducing their local findings.
Compare Barriers Across Communities and Propose Solutions
Students review the partner class's barriers and compare them side-by-side with their own using a simple chart. They identify what is similar, what is different, and discuss why (culture, environment, resources). In small groups, they brainstorm one collaborative solution that could help both communities stay more active.
Share Learning and Reflect on Global Connections
Each group presents their comparison and proposed solution to the class in 2-3 minutes. Students reflect on what they learned about how barriers differ around the world and how working with their partner class gave them new ideas.
