Project Activities
Spin It Up: Gyroscope Demo and Partner Class Hello
Students spin a CD and feel how it resists tilting, then share first impressions and a quick ship, plane, or motorcycle guess with the partner class.
Build, Test, and Explain the Gyroscope Model
In small groups, students build a simple CD gyroscope, explain why it keeps its orientation using angular momentum and precession, and study how stormy waves, turbulence, and rollover affect ships, airplanes, and motorcycles. They exchange their findings and vehicle comparisons with the partner class.
Vehicle Showdown: Which Ride Benefits Most?
Student teams present their evidence, compare their results with the partner class, and vote on which vehicle benefits most from gyroscope stabilization, justifying their choice with shared data.
