Project Activities
Hello World: Meet Your Partner Class
Students introduce themselves and their classroom through short video or voice messages, sharing their names, favorite things, and how they say hello in their home language. They watch or listen to greetings from the partner class and discuss what they notice about the different ways people say hello around the world.
Language Passport: Collect Greetings and Phrases
Each student creates a simple passport booklet where they collect greetings, farewells, thank you expressions, and fun phrases in different languages. Over several sessions, students research or learn from the partner class and add pages for each new language, drawing pictures and writing the words phonetically so they can say them aloud.
Cultural Corners: Research and Share Traditions
Small groups each choose one language or country to explore deeply, researching greetings, food, clothing, or celebrations. Groups prepare a colorful poster or display with pictures, words in the chosen language, and simple facts, then share with classmates and exchange information asynchronously with the partner class.
Stories and Sounds: Folk Tales and Songs Across Languages
Students read or listen to a simple folk tale or fable from a different country in English, then learn a few key words in the original language. They also explore songs or rhymes in different languages, clap rhythms, and sing refrains together, connecting sound and meaning while building confidence in speaking new words.
Language Map and Comparison Chart
As a class, students create a large world map and pin or mark the countries and languages they have learned about, writing the greetings they discovered. They also complete a comparison chart showing how different cultures say hello, goodbye, and thank you, spotting patterns and celebrating similarities and differences.
Voice Exchange: Record and Share Greetings
Students record themselves greeting the partner class in 2-3 different languages they have learned, saying hello, goodbye, and thank you clearly and with feeling. They listen to recordings from the partner class, compare pronunciations and expressions, and write or draw what they notice about how children in other countries communicate.
Voices Around the World: Celebration and Reflection
Students present their language passports, favorite greetings, and discoveries to the class and the partner class through a celebration event. They reflect on what they learned about different cultures, share their favorite new words or phrases, and discuss how learning greetings helps us connect with people around the world.
