Welcome to 3D Design: Exploring OpenSCAD Together
Students explore what 3D modeling is and why it matters, then dive into OpenSCAD basics through a guided tutorial. They create their first simple shape (a cube or basic block) to get comfortable with the software and understand how code creates 3D objects.
Design Your Own 3D Model: From Idea to Code
Students design and build their own simple 3D shape (like a Lego brick, toy block, or custom creation) using OpenSCAD, experimenting with dimensions, colors, and positioning. They document their design choices and export their model as an STL file, ready to share.
Explore and Compare: Global Design Approaches
Before the video exchange, students examine sample 3D models and source code from the partner class, identifying different design strategies and creative choices. They prepare questions and observations to discuss during the live video call.
Live Video Exchange: Sharing Models and Design Stories
Students join a video call with the partner class to present their 3D models, explain their design choices, compare how different students solved the same challenge, and ask questions about each other's creative approaches. They exchange source code and rendered images or printed models.
Reflect and Showcase: What We Learned from Global Collaboration
Students reflect on what they learned from designing in OpenSCAD and from seeing how peers in another country approached the same challenge. They create a short showcase (slides, poster, or written reflection) highlighting their favorite design, a design from the partner class, and one new idea they'd like to try next.
