What is this project about?

This project contributes to the following global goals

Learning Outcomes

Students will be able to describe the core OOP concepts of classes, objects, constructors, encapsulation, and member functions as applied to a university student management system.
Remember / Understand
Students will be able to apply C++ classes and constructors to model student records, courses, and academic results, and test their enrollment and grading functions with partner classroom peers.
Apply
Students will be able to analyze the design of their student management system and compare it with partner classroom solutions to identify weaknesses in data handling, encapsulation, and result calculation.
Analyze
Students will be able to evaluate the usability and reliability of their system using feedback from international peers, and decide which design refinements best improve performance and user experience.
Evaluate
Students will be able to design and build an improved, reusable university management system in C++ that integrates partner feedback and addresses a real institutional need.

Project Activities

1

Kick-off: Introduce the system and the partner class

Students meet the partner class, share their campus realities, and learn the core OOP ideas behind a student management system. Teams agree on the key records, courses, and result rules they will model.

Duration: 30 minutes
2

Analyze requirements and design the classes

Students list the real-world entities, such as students, courses, and results, and sketch a class diagram with private data, public functions, and constructors. They compare their design with a partner team and note weaknesses in data handling and encapsulation.

Duration: 75 minutes
3

Build, test, and refine the system

Students implement the classes in C++, create at least three objects, add enrollment and grading functions, and test with records from both classrooms. They use partner feedback on usability and reliability to fix errors and improve the design.

Duration: 150 minutes
4

Showcase the system and reflect on feedback

Students demonstrate their finished system to the partner class, explain key design choices, and answer questions. Each student reflects on which feedback they used and how the design improved.

Duration: 45 minutes
