Everyday Chemistry and Physics Explorers: Science Around Us, Worldwide

What is this project about?

Students identify chemistry and physics phenomena in their daily environment and share photos and short written observations with partner classes. They compare how the same principles appear in different cultural and local contexts, using only paper,...
Age of Students
13-15 years, 16-18 years, 18+ years
Project Duration
4 weeks
Starting Month
November 2026

Learning Outcomes

Students will be able to describe chemistry and physics phenomena observed in their daily environment and compare how they appear across partner classroom contexts.
Remember / Understand
Students will be able to apply critical thinking to analyze everyday chemistry and physics observations with international peers, using simple household materials and paper-based tools.

Project Activities

1

Kick-off: Spotting Science Around Us

Students meet their partner class in a short video call, introduce themselves, and discuss what chemistry and physics look like in their daily lives. They agree on shared goals and how they will communicate.

Duration: 60 minutes
2

Everyday Phenomena Field Observation

Students use paper and pens to find and sketch chemistry and physics phenomena in their homes and neighborhoods, using simple household materials for quick experiments. They write short observations and share photos with the partner class.

Duration: 180 minutes
3

Cross-Cultural Comparison of Local Phenomena

Students compare their observations with the partner class, identifying how the same principles appear in different local contexts. Working in mixed pairs, they analyze similarities, differences, and possible reasons behind them.

Duration: 180 minutes
4

Problem-Solving with Household Materials

Students design simple, low-tech solutions to a local everyday challenge using household materials, then test and refine them with feedback from the partner class. They document each iteration on paper.

Duration: 120 minutes
5

Joint Showcase and Reflection

Students present their comparisons and solutions to the partner class in a shared video session, then reflect individually on what they learned about science and intercultural communication.

Duration: 60 minutes
