Project Activities
What Does Peace Mean to You?
Students reflect on what peace means in their own lives and communities, then share stories and examples of kind or respectful actions they have witnessed or performed. The class discusses common themes and values that create a peaceful environment.
Create and Decorate Your Peace Leaf
Each student designs and decorates a peace leaf with their own peacemaking commitment or value (such as kindness, respect, or cooperation), then writes a short description explaining why they chose it and what it means to them. Students can draw, color, and personalize their leaves to reflect their own style and culture.
Video Exchange: Sharing Our Peace Pledges
Students present their peace leaves on camera and explain their commitments to the partner class in a live video call. They listen to the partner class's leaves and values, ask questions, and discuss similarities and differences in what peace means across their two communities.
Our Shared Peace Pledge
Students compare the values from both classes, identify common themes of kindness and respect that appear across cultures, and collaboratively create a shared peace pledge that brings together the most important commitments from both groups. The class reflects on what they learned about peace in different communities.
Hands-on Peace Pledge Ceremony and Class Mural
Students place their hands on the class Tree of Peace poster together while reciting or silently reflecting on their personal peacemaking commitments, then create a collaborative hand-print mural around the tree to symbolize their collective pledge as active peacebuilders. This hands-on ritual reinforces their commitment to daily kindness and unity before sharing their pledges with the partner class.
