Project Activities
Global Communication Challenges: What We Know and What We're Learning
Students introduce themselves to their international partner class and share personal stories about a time they struggled to communicate across cultures. Through a moderated video call or asynchronous forum, both classes identify common barriers and spark curiosity about what makes communication work or fail in global teams.
Research and Map Communication Barriers Across Cultures
Students interview peers, teachers, and community members from different cultural backgrounds about real communication challenges they face. They compile findings into a shared research brief that documents barriers, misunderstandings, and successful strategies, then compare notes with their partner class to spot patterns and differences.
Co-Design Toolkit Prototypes with Your Partner Class
Working in small teams with assigned partners from the international class, students design and build an initial communication toolkit (a guide, training module, or interactive resource) that addresses the barriers they discovered. Teams collaborate asynchronously or via scheduled calls, sharing drafts, sketching ideas, and iterating based on real-time feedback from their partner team.
Test Your Toolkit with Diverse Peer Groups
Each team shares their toolkit prototype with at least two different peer groups (one from their own school, one from the partner school or a different cultural context if possible) and collects structured feedback on clarity, relevance, and usability. Students record observations and note which strategies resonate and which confuse users.
Analyze Feedback and Refine Your Toolkit
Teams review all feedback data, identify patterns in what worked and what didn't, and make targeted improvements to their toolkit. They document the changes they made and explain the reasoning behind each revision, then share the refined version with their partner team for a final check-in.
Toolkit Showcase and Reflection on Impact
Each team presents their final communication toolkit to the whole group and reflects on what they learned about intercultural communication, how their thinking changed through testing and feedback, and how their resource could help other young people collaborate across cultures. Teams also discuss next steps for sharing their toolkit more widely in their schools or communities.
